Genetics remains at the forefront of the reason why people have a certain height. The genetics of the Dinka people of South Sudan have placed them in a position where the world would see them as a tall African tribe – or perhaps the tallest in the world.
Dinka is the largest ethnic group in South Sudan and although its people are mostly found in the country, they are also found across other parts of the world as settlers. The height of the average Dinka man is reportedly 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 11 inches. Other well-known tall people of the tribe are up to 7 feet 7 inches tall and more.
Who are The Dinka People?
Dinka people are also known as Jieng and are native to South Sudan. They speak the Dinka Language which falls under the Nilotic language within the Eastern Sudanic beach of the Nilo-Saharan languages.
These people are said to be about 4.5 million according to the 2008 census and consist of 18% of the total population of South Sudan. This makes them the largest ethnic group in the country.
However, it was not until the world noticed the height of the Dinka people, there was not much attention to them. Soon after, other things were noticed about the people’s unique color tone, traditions, and cultures that include three tribal lines (scars) on the forehead as a transition to manhood.
