Kamo Mphela popularly referred to as ‘Queen of Amapiano’ is a South African singer and dancer who have taken the world by storm with her awesome dance styles and singing abilities since her rapid rise to fame began.

Kamo has shined brightly, performed quite well in features, and decided to water herself and build her own craft and name. Deciding not to be restricted to just one part of the entertainment, Kamo engages in both music and dance simultaneously and she is balancing both amazingly well.

The South African entertainer definitely has a lot working in her favor to see that she rises way up and thanks to her extraordinary energy and passion she is making waves and may be unstoppable.

Who Is Kamo Mphela?

Kamogelo Mphela was born on the 29th of November 1999 in Durban, South Africa. She basically grew up in Durban spending most of her life there and studying at the Boston Media House where she studied ‘Media Studies’ for a year.

Her love for entertainment began when she was still very young and would follow her dad to Youth FM radio station where he worked. Although still young, she was never shy to perform and dance at events whenever she found herself at any.

1. Kamo Mphela Is A Talented Dancer

Kamo’s dance skills are pure talent as she started to dance at the early age of 4. She took no dance lessons, she went for no auditions on dancing neither did she have to practice to become the great dancer she is today. She attributes her dance skills to raw talent which she discovered at an early age and has harnessed.

2. She Drew Her Inspiration From Michael Jackson

Kamo remembers being inspired to dance and be great at it by the king of dance; the late Michael Jackson. She was awed by his stage presence and how easy it was for him to perform on stage and his music videos and so she drew inspiration from him. Her style ‘baleka gijima’ was inspired by Michael’s moonwalk.

3. Kamo Tried Acting

Before Kamo decided to pursue a career in dancing, she tried acting and was even featured as an extra on the South African TV series ‘Isibaya’, and Netflix series ‘How to Ruin Christmas: The Wedding’. However, this wasn’t her path and she wasn’t comfortable towing it. She decided to ditch acting and followed her true calling; dance.

4. Kamo Mphela’s Initial Rise To Fame

Her initial rise to fame started when videos of her performing at shows surfaced on social media and she even took to uploading videos of herself dancing on her social media platforms. At this point, Kamo began to draw a lot of attention to her and got more gigs and invites to perform at shows and with artists.

5. The Beginning Of Kamo Mphela’s Music Career

Her music career started in 2019 when she got signed to Major League Music owned by Major League DJs who are twin brothers named Banele and Bandile Mbere.

In a bid to be better than other entertainers who are restricted to just dance, Kamo decided to break out of the box and include music in her list of entertainment.

6. Kamo Mphela’s ‘TWENTEE’

Under her music label ‘Major League Music’, Kamo released her EP titled ‘Twentee’. She released a couple of singles, two of which are titled; ‘Suka Emabozen’, and ‘Menemene’ which have been making waves in South Africa but the most notable of her projects is her EP which she released in 2020.

7. She Has Worked With Both Local And International Acts

Kamo has worked with South African artist Busiswa on her single titled ‘SBWL’ and was featured on MFR Soulz’s single; ‘Amanikiniki’ which ranked No. 1 on radio stations in SA. Kamo has also performed with local artists such as Nadia Nakai and Killer Kau and has featured in so many amapiano songs as a singer and dancer. Internationally, she has worked with Nigerian artist, Falz The Bahd Guy on the remix of his song ‘Squander’.

8. She Was Nominated For MKHM Awards

Kamo Mphela was nominated in the category of ‘BEST MUSIC VIDEO’ in the Mzansi Kwaito and House Music Awards 2021 for the video of her song ‘Nkulunkulu’. The award ceremony is slated to hold on the 27th of November 2021.

9. Is Kamo Mphela Dating Focalistic?

It was rumored that Kamo and fellow South African performer, Focalistic were in a relationship. The rumors sprang up when Focalistic supposedly shared a screenshot of a video call he had with Kamo, on social media.

Although a mutual friend has dispelled the news, Kamo and Focalistic did not respond to the speculations.

10. Kamo Mphela Is Part Of The Nike Family

Kamo Mphela steadily increases her worth as she keeps elevating herself as she has joined the Nike family as a brand ambassador for their Blazer campaign.

The young 25 year old is obviously adding this to her portfolio and it fits perfectly because she has the face and body to model for whatever brand while making the brand a best seller. Kamo shares a lot of pictures on her social media, and she even manages to confuse her fans occasionally as she has and wears different looks which could easily be utilized by so many brands.
