Jocqui Smollett was born on August 2, 1994, in Santa Rosa, California to his parents Janet Harris and Joel Smollett. His father was a Jewish man with ancestral roots from Romania, Russia, and Poland. His mother Janet Harris is an African American woman.

2. Jocqui Smollett’s Educational background
Smollett attended Calabasas high school from 2007 to 2011. He then enrolled in the University of California, Santa Cruz where he earned a dual bachelor’s degree in Global Economics and Pure Mathematics in 2015. His main focus was on Latin America for his Global Economics studies so he spent a year at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain in other to learn about international economics.
In 2014, his academic achievements earned him a Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship.

Smollett’s parents Joel and Janet Smollett are said to be both activists. They both met while they were working for black civil rights. 7. His brother was indicted for staging a fake hate crime assault
Jussie Smollett reported to the police in 2019 that he was attacked outside his apartment by two men in ski masks. He added that they assaulted him using their hands and teeth as weapons on him.
Jussie Smollett was later charged by a Grand Jury with a class 4 felony for filing a false police report. The charges were later dropped but on April 12, 2019, a lawsuit was filed by the City of Chicago against him again.
A police investigations report stated that Jussie Smollett staged the incident because he was not satisfied with his payment on the Fox drama series Empire where he played the role of a black gay man, Jamal Lyon.
