Bim Adewunmi is a British Nigerian writer, journalist, and producer. She came to the limelight with the podcast Thirst Aid Kit and her debut play, Hoard. Bim paved a way for herself in the limelight with innovative insight into life through her work as a producer and writer.

The upcoming writer and producer is an interesting person even though a lot is not known about her. Read the interesting facts you never knew about her.

Who Is Bim Adewunmi

Bim Adewunmi was born on 20 November 1982 to Nigerian immigrant parents of Yoruba descent.  She spent her younger years in Stratford, East London where she was born. She has Spoken about visiting the market with her mother, brother, and siblings in her younger years in London.

Bim is currently  42 years old

Bim Adewunmi attended Bournemouth University. She studied multimedia journalism and trained for print and online media. While still in school, she worked for the BBC radio. Cultural writing stems from her childhood years in front of the television and attendance in choir and drama.

She grew up in a home that was deeply influenced by her Nigerian background. They visited the markets to get items that were suitable for making Nigerian meals like Efo Riro stew. Her family had a deep respect for the African meals, they prepared cultural meals in Far away London

In 2019 she wrote her debut play, Hoard, which brought her to the limelight. She moved to New York and currently resides there.

1.She Started Her Career As A Freelance Journalist

In 2005, Bim Adewunmi started a career that will see her over the next decade trying to create a niche for herself. She was a freelance researcher and runner for BBC One, BBC Three, and BBC Four. She was covering the Nanny Diaries on BBC One, the Campaign for Sexual Health on BBC Three, and the American Visions season on BBC Four.

Bim became a reporter at the Kent Messenger Group, which operates local papers in Kent. Between 2008-2009, she worked in the Not-for-profit sector. These include the British Library, University of London, British Red Cross, and MacMillan Cancer care.

2.Bim Adewunmi Was A Journalist For the Guardian

Bim Adewunmi worked for the Guardian in 2014 as a freelance journalist. She covered a column on popular culture, feminism, and race issues. During her time with the Guardian, she wrote so much interesting content.

She later left the Guardian in 2018 and moved to the States.

3.She Always Dreamt OF Writing For The Guardian

When she was leaving the Guardian in 2018, in a farewell column she thanked her readers. She also revealed that writing for the Guardian was a childhood dream that came true.

For four years, she wrote about interesting things like on Solange and Serena Williams, referred to as giving the younger sister vibes.

4.Editing For Buzzfeed

In 2015 Bim Adewunmi became a culture editor for Buzzfeed, an American media organization headquartered in New York. Buzzfeed tracks focus on digital media, it specializes in internet media, news, and all-around entertainment.

5.Why Did Bim Move To New York

Bim Currently lives in New York City, her years working for Buzzfeed made the relocation easier. In November 2017, she began to co-host the Thirst Aid Kit with fellow writer Nicole Perkins. Thirst Aid Kit is a podcast that centers on celebrity lust. However, it didn’t last long as the podcast relationship with Buzzfeed ended in January 2019.

The podcast was later picked by Slate, a liberal online progressive magazine that has sometimes been condemned. Slate picked up First Aid Kit in August of 2019.

Its return lasted between September 26, 2019, and September 17, 2020, when its hosts finally ended the podcast.

6.She Produced This American Life

After she left the Guardian in 2018, she joined the American radio program, This American Life as a producer in 2019.

7.Bim Adewunmi’s Play Hoard Is Heavily Influenced By Her Childhood In East London

She recalled that while growing up there were no modern amenities in Stgrfadford. The North London line was a huge part of her family’s routine. It connected them with the Ridley Road Market in Dalston and in a way she has made it a central part of her play, Hoard.

Hoard is partly a recollection of her Yorujba background within an environment she grew up in. It is bringing to stage her life in Dalston.

The play premiered at Arcola Theatre located in Dalton in 2019.

8.Why Was Bim Adewunmi In The News?

She critiqued Harvey Weinstein for his sexual predatory behavior in 2017 bringing her news to the headlines. She targeted the racism in his content.

9.How Did She Make About $1.5 Million Net Worth

Bim Adewunmi has been putting a lot of effort into her work as a writer, producer, and journalist. She made an estimated $1.5 million in her career and is going to add to her net worth.

She is still alive and pursuing her career in the media.
