Christina Yamamoto is an American whose claim to fame is as the mother of famous music stars, Jhene Aiko and Mila J. On yet another side of the divide, Christian who on her own rights, is not a famous individual, is known for her marriage of two decades to American medical doctor and singer, Dr. Karamo Chilombo.

Christina was born and raised in the United States but she is a woman of both African-American and Japanese ancestry. Her father, Tadashi “Teddy” Yamamoto, was born in Hawaii in 1937 and when he was only 3 years old, his family moved to Southern California, the United States before settling near Compton in 1944.
Teddy married Essie Pecot, an African American.
2. Christina was married to Dr. Karamo Chilombo for 20 years
As regards her love life, Christina was once married to the rather famous Dr. Karamo Chilombo whose real name is Gregory Wycliff Barnes. The pair got married in 1980 and they remained together for the next 20 years until the marriage came to an end in 2000.
Her former husband changed his name when he was in his 20s while pursuing his musical career. His motivation for going with the name Chilombo is because it is an African word that means “wild beast”.
Since the marriage between the two came to an end, they have both remained unmarried and they still maintain a close relationship because of their children.

3. Christina Yamamoto’s Father Never Travelled To Japan
As stated, Christina’s father was born in Hawaii before his parents moved to the United States during World War II. He remained in the United States where he later married and gave birth to his kids including Christina. Throughout his lifetime, he remained in the United States and never got the chance to visit Japan.
4. Her 2 Decades of Marriage Produced 5 Amazing Children
Famously referred to as Mommy Tina on social media, Christina Yamamoto is a mother of five children, all of whom are products of her marriage to Dr. Chill.
Mommy Tina had her first child, Miyoko Chilombo only a year after she got married on March 30, 1981. She had her second, Jamila Akiko Aba Chilombo, a singer, rapper, and dancer who is famous as Mila J, born on November 18, 1982. Her third child and first son of the family, Jahi Chilombo was born on July 4, 1984, he is a media personality but does not enjoy the same fame as some of his other siblings. Miyaji Chilombo, the second son was born in 198 while the fifth and last child of Christina is Jhene Aiko who was born on March 16, 1988.
4. Christina Yamamoto Is A Proud Grandmother
She officially became a grandmother in 2008 after Jhene Aiko gave birth to her daughter Namiko Love Browner on 19th November 2008. Jhene had her daughter from her relationship with R&B singer O’Ryan who is also known as the younger brother of Omarion.
Similarly, Jhene welcomed her son Noah Hasani on November 8, 2022, with 36-year-old American rapper, Big Sean.

Although the aforementioned are the only children of Christina Yamamoto, her former husband has other children from another relationship. Dr. Chill has three more children, Marcia, Dio, and Kareena Chilombo with another woman. Interestingly all his kids are close and they share a very special bond.

7. Christina Yamamoto Lost Her Son To Cancer In 2012
Christina and her family suffered the tragic loss of her son, Miyagi Hasani Ayo Chilombo who lost his life on July 19, 2012, after a battle with cancer. He battled an inoperable tumor for two years before he finally succumbed. His death was a huge blow to the family as Jhene revealed that she battled depression for a while after the loss.
Born on July 7, 1986, Miyagi was the older brother to Jhene. He died at the age of 26.
