Ahmad Rashad Jr. is the son of a former professional American football player who is now a sportscaster known as Ahmad Rashad. His father can be remembered as the fourth overall selection for the NFL 1972 Draft. He played for the Buffalo Bills, St. Louis Cardinals, and Minnesota Vikings.
Unlike most celebrity kids, Rashad Jr. did not follow in the footsteps of his father. He isn’t known to be a sports player and has obviously pursued a different career path. The 46 year old is one of the former athlete’s 5 biological children. He occupies the fourth position in the family excluding adopted kids.
However, Ahmad Rashad Jr. is known to lead a very private life just like most of his father’s other children.
His Father is a Renowned Former Professional Football Player
Ahmad Rashad Sr. used to play professional American football for the NFL. He was a wide receiver and running back at different times in his career which started from his High School days.
Rashad played for about a decade and also had a brief career in Basketball before completely retiring from sports. Additionally, he joined broadcasting and television as an anchor for both NBC and ABC.
Ahmad Rashad was actually born Robert Earl Moore on the 19th of November 1949. He was born into a Pentecostal family but converted to Islam in 1972. He totally changed his name and even adopted the last name ‘Rashad’ from his mentor Rashad Khalifa who was a biochemist.
Who is Ahmad Rashad Jr.’s Mother?
Ahmad Rashad Jr. was born in 1978 to a woman known as Matilda Johnson. Matilda and Ahmad Rashad Sr. were married for a period of 3 years from 1976 to 1979. In the first year of their marriage, she bore the former NFL player a daughter named Maiyisha. However, barely a year after the birth of their second child, they got divorced.
Ahmad’s mother was not the first of his father’s wives and she certainly wasn’t his last. Before Johnson, the Buffalo Bills former player was married to Deidre Waters in 1969. After the divorce between Ahmad’s parents, Rashad Sr. went on to marry his third wife, Phylicia Ayers-Allen who is an American actress and singer. Ayers-Allen is known for being part of The Cosby Show among other productions.
This third marriage which happened in 1985 ended in 2001 after about 16 years of being together. However, the sportscaster moved on and soon after got himself a fourth wife. In 2007, Rashad married Sale Johnson who was also previously married to Woody Johnson. Woody is the heir and owner of the billion-dollar franchise, Johnson & Johnson, and New York Jet.
In 2013, after 6 years of marriage, Johnson and Ahmad got divorced yet again. Three years later, Ahmad Rashad Jr.’s father remarried for the fifth time to Ana Rodriguez-Paz. She is a South Florida-based psychologist and so far, she is still married to the sportsman.
He Has 4 Biological Siblings
Rashad Ahmad is not the only child of his renowned father, a football star. In fact, prior to the birth of him and his elder sister, his father had other children. The first of the Rashad kids is Geoffery Simmons who was born sometime between the early 1960s and mid-1960s.
He was the child of Earl with his high school girlfriend known as Melody Neal who died from cancer in 1991. Simmons was put up for adoption in 1967 but through the help of Medina Adoption Agency now ‘Amara’, Rashad was able to reunite with his first child in 2005.
After Geoffery Simmons, came Keva who was born in 1970 by Ahmad’s first wife, Deidre. There is also Sean who happens to be another son born in the same 1970 but by a different woman.
After these children came Maiyisha who was born in 1976 and her brother Ahmad Jr. born two years after her.
In 1986, the former NBA player and his third wife welcomed a daughter named Condola Phylea Rashad. She is the only one of Ahmad’s kids who has found a place in the spotlight and enjoys it there.
She took not just her mother, Phylicia’s name but also adopted her love for acting. Condola is a known American actress who is best known for theatre productions.
Additionally, Ahmad Rashad has other siblings whom his father adopted from his several marriages. From the relationships the St. Louis Cardinal Player had, he adopted Billy Bowels who was born in 1973 by Phylicia.
In the same vein, Ahmad Sr. adopted three step-daughters while with Sale Johnson. One of them is Casey Johnson who was born in 1977 but died in 2010. There’s also Jamie Johnson who was born in 1982, and Daisy Johnson born in 1987.
With the death of Casey, the sports anchor adopted Sale’s granddaughter, Ava-Monroe who was born on August 14, 2006.
