Surata Zuri McCants met the singer American Idol winner Ruben Studdard in 2006 and two years later the pair tied the knots. However, the marriage did not long as the two divorced after three years of marriage.
Apparently, after Surata’s marriage with the June 28th singer ended, she was left with nothing due to the prenup she allegedly signed under duress.
Regarding her career, there are tendencies that she used to be a video vixen. She was allegedly seen in one of Nelly’s music videos.
In recent times, Surata has shared a couple of photos on social media that indicate she has been working as a flight attendant in Atlanta Georgia for a couple of years now.

Surati Zuri McCants was born on December 9, 1977. She attended Tri-Cities High School. She later furthered her studies at Georgia State University and earned a bachelor’s degree.
She seems to be close to her father Joseph McCants. She has shared a photo of the two of them together. Also, Surata has posted a photo of herself and her mother, Edith Jefferson claiming they look alike.
How Did Surata Zuri McCants Meet Her Ex-Husband, Ruben Studdard?
The flight attendant and her ex-husband Studdard met in October 2006 while he was signing CDs store at an Atlanta Walmart.
The second season of American Idol winner got attracted to Surata. After signing the CD store’s toy department and asked for her phone number.
After dating for like two years, the American Idol winner planned to propose to Zuri in Las Vegas while at dinner at the Venetian Hotel.
They tied the knot on June 28, 2008, at Canterbury United Methodist Church in Mountain Brook, Alabama. Contrary to reports that the former couple had as many as 20 groomsmen, Studdard revealed during an interview with Essence that they only had eight groomsmen and eight bridesmaids.

The Marriage Lasted for Only Three Years
After three years of what seemed like a blissful marriage, Studdard and Surata announced that they were separated on November 16, 2011. The divorce was finalized in April 2012. The former couple cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce.
According to reports neither McCants nor Studdard has remarried. Until their divorce, they did not share any children.
Surata Zuri McCants was Left with Nothing after the Divorce
Following the divorce, Zuri claimed Ruben had blindsided her with the prenup documents and wanted the judge to nullify them.
However, it did not go well for her as her ex-husband was ordered not to pay any spousal support or alimony. She was even ordered to return the engagement ring the singer gave her. The only thing she got was her wedding dree, her photo albums, a 2006 BMW, a 10k property settlement, and 2k for attorneys fees.
Surata Zuri McCants has Worked as a Manager in the Past
Based on her Instagram bio, McCants describes herself as a flight attendant and a fashionista. However, her LinkedIn profile revealed that she has worked as a personal trainer and a Good Health Consultant at Gymstone Athletic.
Also, she is said to be an Atlanta Market Manager at SoHo Experiential. McCants is reportedly the founder of Infinite Appeal Organization.
Her Ex-Husband is not Just a Singer but Also an Actor
Surata Zuri McCants’ ex-husband rose to fame as the winner of the second season of American Idol. Studdard released seven studio albums including his platinum-selling debut Soulful.
He is famous for his songs, Flying Without Wings, Sorry 2004, and Change Me. Aside from American Idol, he has also appeared as a contestant on the fifteenth season of weight-loss on the competition The Biggest Loser.
Aside from his music career, he has also starred in a couple of television series such as 8 Simple Rules, Life on a Stick, All of Us, Eve, and One on One.
Does She Have a Child?
Based on her Facebook profile, Zuri has a daughter named Khobi Maholmes. Khobi’s father is reportedly a man named Larry Maholmes. Zuri’s daughter is said to be in her twenties now.
Surata and her daughter were serving mother/daughter goals after they both shared an old picture of them wearing similar dresses for prom. While Khobi’s prom was in 2019, her mother’s own dates back to 1996.
Surata is a Cancer Survivor
47-year-old flight attendant shared how it was so hard for her to tell her daughter Khobi that she had cancer. She reportedly received her diagnosis a couple of months in October 2019, a few months after she lost her aunt, Yvette to cancer.Surata battled breast cancer and underwent radiation 5 days for 6 weeks straight. Also, she had a double mastectomy. Based on the photo she shared, she only had to have one breast removed but she decided to remove both.
Despite feeling insecure, after the whole process, Surata decided to share her story with the world during the Breast Cancer Awareness month in 2021.
