Skhumba is a South African top comedian. He is one of the comedians from SA whose jokes always leave the listeners’ ribs cracking and bodies shaking from heartfelt laughter.

Skhumba originally named ‘Skhumba Hlophe’ but also referred to by the nickname ‘Big Banger’ was born on the 31st of August in Tembisa the North of Johannesburg.
He grew up there with his grandmother.
He struggled through school for the beginning of his life but eventually found his calling in comedy and is doing amazingly well now.
Growing up in his grandmother’s house with both his mother and grandmother made him really close to her.

Skhumba wasn’t very intelligent in school and so he couldn’t make it to be what he wanted to be.
He had dreams of becoming a lawyer however, he failed four times before he matriculated thereby dashing those hopes.
He was very naughty and was mostly doing things that made people laugh.
This is probably what laid the foundation for him to become one of SA’s top comedians.
He also flopped on his first attempt at making a debut in comedy when he was to perform at Caprivi in Tembisa but nobody attended the event.
He Worked As A Clerk
Skhumba’s mum worked at a dry cleaner shop and couldn’t afford to send him to the University.
In order to see himself through life, Skhumba got a job at the South African Police Service (SAPC) where he worked as a clerk for 13 years.

Shumba’s journey to being a comedian wasn’t so smooth especially when his first attempt at it failed.
However, this did not deter him as he sought to become better at it and put in work to achieve this present status of being a great comedian.
In order to achieve this, he became a resident comedian at Bambatha Avenue Jazz Café in Centurion where he worked for two years.
While there, he had the opportunity to get better at this art and he made good use of this opportunity.

By the year 2015, Skhumba was already earning R8000 per gig.

Skhumba is happily married and has two beautiful kids with his wife.
He has a girl for the first child and a boy for his second.

In a bid to give back to his community, Skhumba started a charity foundation which he uses as a medium to reach out to the less privileged especially the disabled.
He donates wheelchairs to these disabled individuals to help life a little bearable for them.
He does this as his quota in contributing back to his community.
