Port Owen is a marina that is less than a hundred and fifty kilometers from Cape Town, laying on the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It is a beauty to behold, with surrounding wetlands, sanctuaries, and a network of canals.

Incredibly, it is one of those places you shouldn’t miss when visiting South Africa, whether on a business trip or vacation. Also, the port boasts several luxury accommodations that give the feel of home away from home.

Accommodation In Port Owen

Accommodation in Port Owen is not cheap nor expensive. The rates are pocket-friendly, depending on the size of your budget. Similarly, the cheapest room goes for less than a thousand rand per night, whereas an expensive one is more than 3, 000 rand.

The following are the best lodges you can find within and around the beautiful city;

1. Aloe Aloe

The lodge is located in Velddrif. It can accommodate 4 people at a time. Also, it offers two bedrooms, with the main bedroom having a queen-size bed, while the second has 2 three-quarter beds.

There is a well-furnished living area and a kitchen. And a small garden with aloes and cycads.

You can have an amazing time here with 750 rands per night.

2. Sleepers @ 8B

This accommodation takes at least 8 people. It is located in a serene residential area on the waterway leading off the Berg River. From this spot, you will see the Cape West Coast and all the beautiful things it offers.

800 rand is enough for you to enjoy the beautiful rooms the accommodation offers.

3. Mandoryn Nege

900 rand will allow spending a night in this holiday home located in Velddrif. The two-story building is found on the waterway (canal) and has a private jetty that allows you to access both the river and sea.

4. Russells On The Port

This hotel located in Port Owen provides accommodation in 15 guest rooms for tourists. It lies near the Port Owen Yacht Club and Marina, giving visitors amazing views of the Marina.

It takes 1,200 rands for you to enjoy the hotel’s exquisite and luxury rooms.

5. Fisherman’s Rest

It is one of the highly recommended accommodations in Velddrif which can take at least 6 people at a time. This fishing and diving town is well known to have a wide variety of fish species. Likewise a decent number of pure beaches and a magnificent creek which is home to numerous kinds of birds.

To spend a night here, pay 1, 200 rand and have a feel of nature.

6. Skoenlapper

A family can enjoy a private moment here with 3, 200 rands per night. The accommodation features river views and is 2.4 km from Laaiplek Spa Center.

The facility has 4 bedrooms well-furnished with double beds and a single bedroom with 2 bunk beds. There is a kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing machine. And also 2 TV sets with satellite channels, 2 braiis, Wi-fi, and a large dining area.

7. Sea-la-vie Velddrif

This is by far the most expensive accommodation from within and around Port Owen. It cost nothing short of 4, 230 rand to lodge in Sea-la-vie Velddrif. Since it is expensive, it is the perfect spot for a holiday home, with a private jetty and a braii.

It can accommodate at least 8 adults and 4 children.

There are a lot of things to do and many places to visit and feed your eye with the beauty that lies with Port Owen.

5 Facts About Port Owen

1. It Was Named After H. Owen Wiggins Junior

The city of Port Owen was named after H. Owen Wiggins Junior. He developed the marina and its residential plots by dredging about 1 million cubic meters of sand and rock. And built a 7km ridge, jitties, and other infrastructure for 15 years.

2. First Deep-sea and Residential Marina In South Africa

It is the first deep-sea and residential marina to be developed in South Africa. The town’s canals are controlled by the Port Owen Marina Authority.

3. The Bell Of Roamer Is On Display In The City

Bob Burn is the 32nd man to cruise around the world alone. So, the city was home to his boat for many years. His bell is on display at Gideon Estates.

4. There’s A Monument of Vasco Da Gama In The City

The Portuguese government raised a monument in honor of Vasco Da Gama. It was said that he landed there.
