Lupita Nyong’o’s Biography

The Kenyan-Mexican actress was born on March 1 1983 in Mexico City to her Kenyan parents, peter Anyang Nyong’o and Dorothy Ogada Buyu. She is of Luo descent and she is the second child out of her parents’ six children.

Lupita Nyong’o and her family returned to Kenya when she was just one year old when her father got a job as a professor at the University of Nairobi.

The award-winning actress was sent to Mexico to learn Spanish at the age of 16. She took classes at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico’s Learning Centre for Foreigners.

She also attended St Mary’s school in Nairobi where she earned an IB Diploma in 2001. She later earned a degree in film and theatre studies from Hampshire College in the United States.

Lupita Nyong’o’s career

Lupita Nyong’o began her career as a production assistant for quite a number of films in 2005. She later got a role in a short film east river and also the Kenyan television series Shuga.

In 2009, she wrote, directed, and produced a documentary titled in my genes. It won first prize at the 2008 five college film festival after being played at several film festivals.

Lupita Nyong’o enrolled in a master’s degree program in acting at the Yale School of Drama and appeared in several stage productions while in the school. She even won the Herschel Williams prize in the 2011-12 academic year for acting students with Outstanding Ability.

She became the first Kenyan and Mexican actress to win an Oscar for a feature film debut performance. The actress has had a successful career in acting since her role in blockbuster movies like Black Panther and Us.

2. K’Naan
