Lisa Davina Phillip was born sometime in 1978 in South London. Her family’s ethnic origins have been traced to the Caribbean Island, Carriacou, which is one of two small Islands in Grenada. Even though her parents’ name is not yet known, her mother is not alive.
While growing up the 46 year-old had her eyes fixed on entertainment. She had the wits of a natural performer, always dancing, creating a scene of laughter, and attracting the attention of people around her.
When she was 15, she informed her teachers of her burning desire to become an actress, but the answer she got was discouraging. The actress explained that when her daughter has a sickle cell crisis, it starts with pain in her joints and increasingly in her chest. She said the pain is excruciating and can be very difficult to manage as it usually felt deep into the bone. This can go for days or weeks.
As a result of her daughter’s health condition, she adjusted her lifestyle and working schedule to tender to her. Moreover, she works from home where she schools her daughter.
She went on to say that Miai is bright, resourceful, and resilient. That her daughter is strong in many ways beyond her. She makes her own rules and doesn’t allow her condition to define who she is, said Lisa.
Additionally, the British actress and her daughter are ambassadors for Sickle Cell Anaemia. They have been supporting the Sickle Cell Society, African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust, and NHS Blood and Transplant.
