On the 17th day of April 1964, Samuel and Zelma Staples gave birth to her in Los Angeles, California, the United States. The 60 year-old actress was raised in a family with a modest occupation, where her father owns a graphic arts business and her mother works as a nurse.
As regards education, her parents didn’t take that for granted as they enrolled her at Cerritos High School in California. She graduated in 1982 and decided to further her studies by attending California State University, Dominguez Hill in Carson.
The 60 year-old actress graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism, with minors in Sociology and Theatre. She returned to her alma mater so many years after her graduation to give a commencement speech in 2016.

Throughout her life and existence, the actress has been married twice and divorced once. She first tasted marriage with dancer and actor Adolfo Quinones, popularly known as Shabba Doo in 1982.
Unfortunately, the union lasted for a few years. They divorced in 1987, five years after walking down the aisle. The union ended without the pair having any children, Shabba Doo had two children from his first marriage to Gwendolyn Powell from 1976 to 1982.
Going by the above, it means that he married Rochon immediately after parting ways with his first wife.
Prior to her second marriage, she was reported to have had a relationship with singer-songwriter Jackie Jackson from 1989 to 1991. Some years later she met her current husband, Antione Fuqua.

1. Her Ex-Husband ‘Shabba Doo’ Died In 2020
Adolfo Quinones also known as Shabba Doo and Rochon’s ex-husband is dead. He died on 29th December 2020 at his home at the age of 65. Initially, the cause of death was not made known, but a subsequent report from the Coroner’s office listed arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease as the cause.
2. She Met Her Ex-Husband On-Set of A Movie
The first movie role Rochon landed was in 1984’s Breakin’. That wasn’t all, it was there she came in contact with the Shabba Doo who later married her. He became popular for playing the role of Ozone in the movie. He also featured in its sequel Breakin’ 2: Electic Boogaloo.
