Kellie Shanygne Williams is an American actress best known for her role as Laura Winslow on the 1989 sitcom Family Matters. She has been married to Hannibal Jackson since 2009 and together they have two children; Hannah Belle Jackson and John Ervin Jackson.

Known to have dabbled in modeling at an early age, Kellie soon found her place in acting and has long made her marks in the industry. Since her TV debut in 1982, the Washington, D.C. native has recorded a number of television appearances that have garnered an impressive net worth estimated at $2 million.

Kellie Shanygne Williams was born to her parents on March 22, 1976, and she is 49 years old at the moment. According to the records, she was raised in Washington, D.C. alongside her younger sister Marti Shanygne Williams and brother Donte Shanygne Williams. 

As for her education, she was enrolled at Central Senior high school and after graduation, she proceeded to the University of California in Los Angeles where she majored in psychology. Thereafter, she attended the Prince George’s County School for the Arts and was honored into the “Hall of Stars” in 1993 for her academic and performing arts achievements.

She Has Been Married For Over a Decade

As you would easily find, Kellie is married to Hannibal Jackson. The pair met through a mutual friend in 2007 and soon started a relationship that would later lead to their marriage in 2009 precisely September 5 after dating for 2 years.

Their marriage ceremony was held at the Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, Maryland, and witnessed by a number of friends and family.

Kellie and Jackson have enjoyed several years of marital bliss as their social media suggest. They are also proud parents of two children namely Hannah Belle Jackson and John Ervin Jackson who were born in June 2010 and July 2012 respectively.

The actress’s husband is the CEO of Y-technology; a consulting firm in Maryland that is centered on providing IT solutions to the federal and state government, nonprofits, and private sectors.

1. She Suffered from Speech Delay as a Child

Most children begin communication quite early while others start late. Kellie reportedly falls in the second class. We garnered that she didn’t talk as a toddler which got her parents worried. After several evaluations, her father got her enrolled in a children’s theatre program at the age of 4 which helped her start speaking and also built her confidence.

2. Kellie Shanygne Williams Started her Career as a Children’s Fashion Model and Switched to Acting

Following Killie’s enrollment at the theatre, she soon developed an interest in entertainment and got started as a children’s fashion model. She appeared in a number of TV commercials and also walked through several stages including; Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, The Colored Museum, Butterfingers Angel, and Goin’ Home.

At the age of 6, she made her TV debut on An All-Star Celebration Honoring Martin Luther King Jr (NBC, 1986) and later earned minor roles in films such as Suspect (1987) and Men Don’t Leave (1990).

Up until her teenage years, she was part of several projects including; The Starlight Foundation International Youth Ambassador, Famous Phone Friends, Great Beginnings for Black Babies, and Hollywood for Children.

3. Kellie is Popular for her Role in the Television Series, Family Matters

Like several actors, there’s always a movie role viewers can’t forget, and for Kellie, it was her role as Laura Lee Winslow on the ABC/CBS television series Family Matters which was on from 1989 to 1998.

In the series, she portrayed the middle-born child of Carl and Harriette Winslow who is a preoccupied teenager with an interest in trending fashions, styles, music, and dance. Following her graduation, she was accepted at Havard but financial constraints made her attend a local college in Chicago where she would later find the love of her life.

4. Kellie Williams Launched a Fine Arts Program for Youth in 2006

The Family Matters actress is one that enjoys giving back to her community. Upon her graduation from UCLA, she relocated to back to her hometown, Washington D.C., and began a new fine arts program for youths at the Howard University Children’s Theatre.

Moving forward, she created another arts program known as the Killie Williams Program in Washington, DC for children between the ages of 14 to 20. The program is expected to help students within the area explore their skills and also gain the opportunity to produce television shows and also air them on Comcast Cabel Local On-Demand.

For her education commitments and philanthropic projects, Kellie has received several awards such as the Received the Touchdown Club of Washington, DC’s “Timmie Award” in 1994.

5. How She Spends Her Free Time

Asides from Kellie’s career as an actress, she also enjoys singing, dancing, and roller skating. In addition to this, the Washington, DC native also revealed that one of her favorite hobbies is shopping.
