Ivara Esege is known for being the husband of the acclaimed novelist Chimamanda Adichie who has written several novels including purple hibiscus, half of a yellow sun, and we should all be feminists.

While Chimamanda is all about writing and advocating for gender equality, Ivara is saving lives as a medical doctor based in Baltimore, Maryland United States. Although his marriage to the feminist has received several backlashes, the pair is still holding up and have an interesting love life.

Ivara Esege is Married to a Globally Recognised Writer and Feminist

While privacy is hard to come by for many celebrities, Chimamanda and her husband made this a reality in their love story which remains their best-kept secret. The couple crossed paths following the closeness of their parents and have been married for over a decade.

Ivara Esege and Chimamanda quietly tied the knot in 2009 in a very private and small ceremony. In fact, the attendees who were mostly close friends and families were not permitted to share photographs of the lovely occasion.

Until 2019 when Chimamanda shared photographs of her wedding in honor of her parents who were both late, many settled for the idea that she was a single lady. Other reasons for this are because of her strong feminist stance. Also, Chimamanda doesn’t fancy being addressed as a Mrs. she prefers to be first recognized as an author before a wife.

1. Is he a Nigerian?

Ivara Esege, 57, was born on August 4, 1967, in Enugu, Nigeria. He prefers to live a private life and nothing is known about his parents and siblings. However, according to findings, he holds dual citizenship from Nigeria and British America. The writer’s husband currently lives in Baltimore, Maryland USA with his wife and beautiful daughter.

2. He has been practicing as a Medical Doctor for Over 20 Years

Before moving  Ivara was enrolled in a Nigerian University to study medicine. After graduation, he served for a period of two years in his alma Mata. In 1995, he moved to the united states of America, to complete his postgraduate degree at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Currently, the Enugu-born is practicing as a family doctor that works with the primary and immediate care unit in the USA and occupies the position of a clinical assistant professor of family and community at UMMC.

3. Ivara Esege Supports His Wife as a Feminist

Many men believe that feminism isn’t incompatible with romance however, Ivara Esege doesn’t think so. In fact, he agrees completely with his wife’s opinion on social, economic, and political equality. A vivid acceptance of this was his choice to stay home and look after his newborn for the period of 6 months. Additionally, the duo shares equal responsibility in raising their daughter.

The medical practitioner supports his wife as a feminist and even joined her for the Women’s March in 2017 in DC. By this, he believes that they are able to sustain greater relationship stability.

4. Ivara’s Wife Dropped from Medical School to Pursue Writing

Chimamanda, 47, professionally known as an award-winning novelist was born on September 15, 1977, to James Nwoke Adichie and Grace Ifeoma in Enugu Nigeria.

After high school education, the bookworm enrolled as a medical student at the University of Nssuka, Nigeria following her father’s demands. However, this changed when she was given a scholarship to Drexel University in Philadelphia at the age of 19. and was later transferred to Eastern Connecticut State University. Chimamanda graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and political science. Thereafter, she bagged two master’s degrees. The first was in creative writing from John Hopkins University in 2003 and the other in African studies from Yale University in 2008.

5. He is the father of one

Ivara Esege welcomed a beautiful daughter with his wife Chimamanda in 2016. Even though the prolific writer kept her pregnancy a secret, she finally revealed the good news a few months after the child was born. The name of the baby name isn’t known but according to speculations, it’s of Igbo origin.

6. How Rich Is He?

The father of one makes his money primarily from being a Medical Doctor. He is reportedly at least $5 million. Meanwhile, his wife Chimamanda is considered one of the richest authors on the globe.

7. His Father In-law is a Scholar

Ivara is married to one of the most educated authors in the world. Chimamanda has received 16 Honorary Degrees from foreign Universities. It’s only true that an apple never falls far from the tree.

Ivara’s father-in-law was Nigeria’s first professor of statistics and the first Nigerian to obtain a Ph.D. certificate. He was also recognized as emeritus professor James Nwoye Adichie at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka among many noteworthy achievements. Unfortunately, the died in 2020 at the age of 88, as a result of kidney problems, he is still remembered for his accomplishments.
