DaMarcus Beasley is an American former professional soccer player. He is a left-footer who played as a left-winger and left-wingback while still a professional player.

DaMarcus Beasley has since retired from playing professional football but is still active in the soccer world. He is one of the few who has decided to still be very invested in the game of soccer even after retirement.

Beasley has had quite an amazing journey through his soccer playing career and opted to retire at the time when he felt it was right to.

DaMarcus Beasley was born ‘DaMarcus Lamont Beasley’ on the 24th of May 1982 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA. He is of African-American descent as his father is originally from Savannah, Georgia. DaMarcus’ father worked at Dana Holding Corp.

His father used to be a truck driver touring around the nation. He finally decided to settle when he got to Fort Wayne. DaMarcus’ father’s name is Henry Beasley and he met his wife Joetta Beasley who is a native of Fort Wayne.

Joetta worked as an accountant for the Dana Holding Company Henry Beasley used to work at. Henry and Joetta fell in love and got married. This union saw the birth of two boys; DaMarcus and his older brother Jamar. Jamar was born three years before DaMarcus’ birth.

DaMarcus Beasley became a soccer player from a very young age as his dad always wanted him to be involved in sporting activities. Beasley played football and basketball and was really good at them.

He attended South Side High School before he moved to Florida to pursue his career in soccer playing. In Florida, DaMarcus also attended the United States Soccer Federations Residency program called ‘IMG Academy’ in Bradenton.

DaMarcus Beasley is very close to his family as he fondly remembers that his parents sacrificed a lot for him and his brother. He also remembers that his dad thought he and his brother were going to be great basketball players but that wasn’t the case.

The Beasley boys grew up to follow their passion for soccer instead and have made great strides in their chosen paths.

He also remembers his relationship with his brother and how sometimes his brother would beat him up in order to teach him how to be physically strong.

1. How DaMarcus Manage Schooling And His Career?

The young lad started off being a pro soccer player playing four and a half years with the Chicago Fire. He was with the Chicago Fire from 2000 to 2004 and he first joined them while still in High School.

DaMarcus promised his parents that he would finish his High School before pursuing a career in professional soccer and that he did.

However, Beasley did not find it easy juggling school and his career. He would attend classes and study from Monday to Wednesday then fly to Chicago to meet up with training. DaMarcus would train on Thursday and Friday, play on Saturday and return back to Florida on Sunday to get ready for classes.

2. His Older Brother Is Also A Soccer Player

DaMarcus Beasley has an older brother named Jamar who was born in 1979. The two Beasley boys were involved in soccer from a young age as their father wanted. Jamar used to play for the MLS and the United States U-20 team. He was the first-ever player who was signed out of high school to the MLS in 1998.

Jamar Beasley is a member of an American indoor soccer franchise called ‘The Cedar Rapids Rampage’ based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is also actively part of the United States national futsal team.

3. DaMarcus Beasley Is A Businessman

In addition to being a great soccer player, DaMarcus has added business to his line of trade. He co-designed a piece of jewelry that was named after him and has since launched a collection of jewelry.

As Beasley picked interest in designing and fabricating jewelry, he collaborated with The Diamond Studio to achieve the launch of his jewelry.  This feat is one he is very proud of and would probably continue to drive to success.

4. His Car Was Firebombed

DaMarcus was a victim of vandalism and attack as his car was firebombed on the 1st of February 2010.

The former soccer player was in his house when he heard weird noises as the screeching of tires just outside his house that night. On looking out, Beasley saw his BMW car up in flames while another car sped away.

Account from an eyewitness stated that a hooded individual placed a gasoline bomb under Beasley’s car, made a line of petrol, and then threw a lit fire to it.

There were a couple of speculations about who could have carried out such an act and what the motive was.

Although it was an unfortunate incident, DaMarcus took the matter lightly and even made jokes about it when he posted on his Twitter account.

Seeing that he was quite successful during his days as a soccer player, a destroyed car wasn’t majorly his problem.

5. About DaMarcus’ Retirement From Playing Professional Football

Beasley first retired from playing for his national team on the 15th of December 2014. Although he returned in 2015 to play for the 2015 Gold Cup because the national team had no competent leftwinger.

In 2019, DaMarcus Beasley decided to put an end to his soccer playing career. Haven played for 20 years, Beasley thought it wise to hang his boots and focus on something else.

By May of 2019, he announced his decision to retire from football because he felt it was time to. He insisted that his retirement had nothing to do with the fact that he wasn’t physically fit to continue playing.

Beasley admitted that he could have still had an extra year of playing soccer after 2019 if he wanted to. However, he was mentally done with playing the sport and that is all it took for him to make his decision.

6. Beasley’s Achievements

The 42 year-old former soccer player happens to be the first American who played in 5 World Cup qualifying circles and is also the only American to play in 4 FIFA World Cups. He has earned 126 caps in his 16-year international career with the U.S national team. DaMarcus starred in the 1999 U-17 World Cup in New Zealand where he got the Silver ball award.

7. DaMarcus Co-owns Fort Wayne FC

Beasley DaMarcus presently co-owns Fort Wayne FC which is a professional soccer club in Wayne, Indiana. On the 28th of October 2020, the club announced that Beasley has joined the ownership group of Fort Wayne.

DaMarcus achieving the status of the Clubs Co-ownership is a dream coming true for him.

He stated that he had no plans of being a coach after retirement and apparently had other interesting plans which included owning a Soccer Academy and co-owning the club.

Beasley has been an ambassador for American soccer and he is really elated because he is home as a black man, he has to educate the younger generation about how to survive and fight racism, demand for equity as well as remaining focused on their skills and passion.

8. DaMarcus Beasley’s Net Worth

The former American professional soccer player has had quite an amazing journey playing professional soccer for two decades.

In addition to his list of achievements in his 20 years of professional soccer playing days, he amassed a net worth of $6 million dollars.

9. Is He Married?

It isn’t stated yet if DaMarcus is married or not. Some time ago a publication about Beasley having an on-and-off girlfriend who paid regular visits to him made waves. However, that girlfriend didn’t seem to stay around for long and more rumors about who he was with, surfaced.

At one time, he was said to be in a relationship with a Miami model named Brittany Rose.

What we do know is that DaMarcus has a daughter with whom he spends a great deal of time. The mother of the young girl is still not known as DaMarcus has kept his personal life really private. His daughter was born on the 1st of May 2014.

10. Beasley Has Faced Racial Taunts

DaMarcus has been a victim of racial abuse and discrimination both on and off the pitch. He has been faced with a lot of derogatory remarks and chants by supporters of football.

There are times when he would be on the field of play and when he’s with the ball, the crowd of supporters began to boo at him. These fans go as far as making animal noises in a bid to mock him and his black skin.

Also from remarks from fellow soccer players of other origins, it is somewhat insinuated that his soccer skills are attributes of his black skin. 

Some of his colleagues make statements that indicated that his skills and talent on the field of play are attributed to the fact that he is of African-American descent.

DaMarcus lived through a lot of racist comments and abuse throughout his professional career. He admits it is a tough and disheartening thing to go through especially while struggling to be successful.

Although DaMarcus Beasley isn’t the only African-American sportsman to face such demeaning experiences, his story is as unique as the other persons.
