The biggest reality TV show in Nigeria in recent times is Big Brother Naija. Even for those who have never seen the show, it undoubtedly gets their tongues wagging. The show is a showcase of what would happen when you bring different people (housemates) from all works of life and put them in a house for days.
For Big Brother Naija, it has gone on for a long and this year happens to be its 7th season. This season is themed ‘Level Up’ and it has 24 contestants known as ‘housemates’ competing for the grand prize of 100 million Nigerian Naira.
The Big Brother Naija Housemates consist of 12 men and 12 women. They are also evenly distributed in both the Level 1 and Level 2 houses as this year’s special feature included dual houses.
Gathering different people from all parts of the country to live together for 72 days is no easy task. In as much as their struggle for survival is the bane of the entertainment, it is also a recipe for disaster. Nonetheless, come day 72, one of them would be crowned the ultimate winner of the grand prize.
This year’s Big Brother Naija Season 7 Headline sponsors are ‘Pocket by Piggyvest’. The associate sponsor is ‘Flutterwave’. The Nigerian-made reality TV show has Ebuka as the show’s host and it’s being aired in Lagos, Nigeria.
Let’s Meet the Housemates in the Order They Entered the Big Brother House
1. Groovy
The Lagos-based young man from Anambra State happened to be the first housemate to make it into the big brother season 7 house. He prefers to be called Groovy in the house but his real name is Henry Olisaemeka Orakwue.
At the time he made his way into the house, Groovy was 26years old. He was also a businessman who has a knack for fashion as he is into clothing and accessories. Olisaemeka graduated from the University of Lagos with a B. Sc. in Biochemistry.
Additionally, the first BBNaija Season 7 housemate believes he is a positive, self-sufficient, and supportive person. He claims to be very blunt and this may pose a challenge for him with the other housemates.
Above all, Groovy intends to do whatever it takes to remain in the house to the very end. The final goal for him is to be influential, wealthy, and powerful. He is also interested in bringing change to his country.
On if he was interested in having a relationship in the big brother house, 6 feet 5 inches Groovy came ready to mingle. Interestingly, the first few days of the first week in the house have seen him cozying up with a fellow housemate.
2. Beauty
Just like her name implies, Beauty is a beauty queen and is the 43rd Miss Nigeria. She has the tag of ‘Covid Queen’ as her coronation and reign happened during the period of the coronavirus pandemic. Prior to this, she was crowned the ‘Most Beautiful Girl in Taraba’ (2015-2017).
Born Beauty Etsanyi Tukura, she hails from Taraba state, and as of the time of entering the big brother house, she was 24 years old. The young beauty queen is the last of 4 kids and is also a Law graduate. She claims to be a great cook but does not like to cook.
Self-described as passionate, reliable, generous, and free-spirited, she feels the problem the other big brother naija housemates may have with her is ‘bluntness’. She feels she is respectful and would also not take any form of disrespect.
Beauty Tukura is a ‘10’ but her penchant for drinking a little too much attracts a dent to that image. We would however see if this habit will work for her against the other Big Brother Naija housemates, though.
Beauty may have had her eyes on the prize money but just a few days into the show, she seems to be eyeing another prize. The one who caught Groovy’s attention is none other than the beauty queen. It will interest you to know that they have shared a bed and a kiss already.
3. Khalid
Representing Plateau State, 22-year-old Ismail Rukuba Ahalu believes he’s as charismatic as they come. He wants to be simply called Khalid and known as a master of a lot. The young Plateau man loves basketball, skateboarding, archery, and watching anime.
Khalid hails from a large family consisting of 8 siblings and works as a freelance graphic designer and muralist. According to him, you’ll most likely catch him where the fun is at as he loves engaging conversations and sports.
The archer is a full package lacking the skills and ability to cook. This he however makes up for with his brains and charisma. Khalid has a tribe of friends that he is proud of and plans to meet more people and make more friends.
When it comes to relationships, however, he doesn’t seem to be so invested. Identifying as ‘chronically single’, Khalid doesn’t consider the big brother house a place he would want to change that title.
His goal as one of the big brother housemates is to sell himself and get a wider reach. Ultimately, Ismail would readily ditch being a team player in order to win the grand prize. Contending with 23 other Big Brother Naija housemates is no walk in the park, though.
4. Ilebaye
Ilebaye Odiniya known as Ilebaye for short is a graduate of Criminology and Security studies. She is 21 years old and from Kogi State and believes to be unique and a true definition of Gen-Z. Ilebaye is adventurous, controversial, and a go-getter.
On personal traits she feels could rub people off the wrong way, top of her list is her nonchalance and bluntness. Her love for fun and entertainment could most likely play in her favor and overshadow the bad traits.
Ilebaye believes she brings a balance to being a lover and a fighter as she is both. Additionally, she loves to swim, bowl, shop, and party and admits that if she were Big Brother, she would let the Big Brother Naija housemates party all the time.
With no intention of coupling up in the house, she suffered a heartbreak a month prior to the show’s launch. The heartbreak she suffered was a result of her lover leaving her to get married to another woman. Maybe the criminologist is still heartbroken and may find a fixer in the house before the 72 days are over.
5. Cyph
A native of Ezihitte, Mbaise, in Imo State, Cyph, born Bright Hidi Nwekete is a 27-year-old. He is an art lover whose interests in music and movies supersedes some human capabilities. Bright dabbles in anything artistic and instantly falls in love with arts in all forms.
A graduate of Electrical Engineering from Madonna University, he enjoys traveling, fashion, and entertainment. He always reminds himself that he only lives once and so should enjoy life to its fullest.
He happened to be the first of the Big Brother Naija housemates to admit his competitiveness. According to the engineer turned entertainer, he is on the show to win the prize money through intense competition.
As a lover, Cyph believes that big brother gathered the 24 housemates together in one house to compete for the prize and to also mingle. He is willing to mingle with any willing person in the house and would see where that goes.
6. Amaka
Chiamaka Crystal Mbah, the only daughter of two, has a brother whom she has declared her unwavering love for. She is a 23-year-old health care worker from Anambra State. She also works as a front desk officer in a school where she provides a listening ear to the students.
Amaka, as she wants to be called, is a go-getter and fun-loving person. She is unapologetically bold and may come off as mean and a little extra. However, upon knowing her, she isn’t all that.
A proud talkative, she feels other housemates may find this annoying and it may work against her. Nonetheless, she is honest and this may make up for whatever flaw she may have.
From her first few minutes in the house, the health worker announced her love for food. In her words, she is a huge foodie. So far, this seems to be the only love she has but on having a romantic fling or relationship, we are watching out.

Kess claimed to have gotten express permission from his wife to have fun in the house. Viewers are interested in knowing if this includes mingling with female housemates or just doing what it takes to win the grand prize.

11. Bryann
Amongst Nigerians, he is seen as the Rema of the BBNaija house. This is mostly attributed to their physical appearance though. However, Bryann and Rema share a love for music as the young 22-year-old is an artist and producer.
