Maxwel Cornet is an Ivorian professional footballer who, as of 2021 plays as a full-back and winger for the premier league club Burnley and for the Ivory Coast national team.

Importantly, Maxwel Cornet had pure talent as a child. He disported his football skills on the street of Bregbo and his uncle who spotted an Ivorian star in him facilitated his dreams by migrating him to France. The stripling being reformed by sports academy and vigorous training now makes a career from it.

The Ivorian baller started his career in France with FC Metz, proceeded to Olympique Lyon before signing for his current club. He has been a professional footballer since 2004 when he started his youth career and wears the No. 20 shirt at Burnley.

1. How old is the football player?

Maxwel was born on September 27, 1996. His full name is Gnaly Albert Maxwell Cornet and was born to his biological parents: Songo Saha Beatrice and Dejoue Kouegba Firmin. The Ivorian baller grew up in Bregbo located in the suburbs of Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He is currently 28 years old.

However, Maxwel emigrated to France when he was 3 years and 6 months old to stay with his uncle Mr. and Mrs. Jean Claude Gba in Metz, Lorraine.

Maxwel is from the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire which is located on the southern coast of West Africa. He is an Ivorian. His parents are Ivorians and he spent the beginning of his formative years in Ivory Coast. However, given his migration to France when he was still quite young, he got neutralized by the French.

Therefore, it is safe to say that ‘Maxou’ as he is fondly called is a Franco-Ivorian.

3. How Maxwel Cornet started his career

Jean Claude Gba discovered Maxwels’ talent at a very young age and set the pace for him by moving him to France. At the age of 8, he got enrolled with a local club ARS Laquenexy academy in France.

In 2004, his performance in the local club earned him a move to FC  Metz, an international football academy where he further developed his proficiency. During this period, he lived with football coach Romuald Giamberini and his wife Anna to enable easy access to FC Metz’s training ground.

At the age of 16, Cornet made his first professional debut for Metz senior team in 2012. furthermore, he recorded 3 goals in 12 matches in his first full season. After his second year with FC Metz, he proceeded to join Olympique Lyon at the age of 18.

During his first full season in Lyon, the Ivorian player served as the primary reliance of the team helping them record a runners-up finish in Ligue 1. Maxwel also assisted the team in securing four top-four finishes at the Groupama Stadium and entry into the Uefa Champions League.

Moreso, Burnley paid a fee of €15m (£12.9m) Lyon for the winger. the five-year deal was signed on august 29 2021

Cornet has also represented France from U-14-U21, before representing the ivory coast at the senior level in 2017. He scored 4 times in 21 appearances.

4.Maxwel’s move to France was necessitated due to his family’s lack

The winger’s move to stay with his mother’s relative was said to have been prompted by more than one reason. The need for him to be closer to the football academy is one. However, it was stated that his family was going through serious financial strains.

As a result of his background, he was adopted in order to afford his parents to take care of his other siblings. His stay with his uncle and aunt in France was quite easy and blissful as he was treated like their biological child. It was also revealed that their children treated him greatly as well.

Maxwel cornet earns primarily from being a footballer and also as a partner with Adidas football collectives. He earns £44,000 per week, £2,288,000 per year playing for Olympique Lyonnais.

Cornet currently signed a  five-year contract for premier league club Burnley worth €15 million. His current net worth is £12,132,640.  The athlete’s current contract expires on June 30, 2026.

6. He is Burnley’s first Ivorian football player

Maxwel became the first Ivorian international player for Burnley after signing a five-year contract with the premier club. He has been making great contributions since he joined the club.

The midfielder recorded his first Burnley striking goal in his first premier league start at Leicester city volleying in a Vydra cross. Furthermore, he has scored six goals in his 12 games for the Clarets.

The Ivorian professional footballer is in a relationship with Melissa Ben who many identify as his wife. In June 2019, the lovers welcomed a baby boy.

8. Why did Maxwel choose Lyon amongst other clubs?

Cornet has always been a die-hard fan of Lyon from his teenage days and it was his dream to one day play for the club. Also, from a vantage point, he revealed that what prompted him to choose Lyon amidst other clubs was to complete his progress with the French National U-19 team.

9. His football role models Include fellow Ivorian, Didier Drogba

Cornet looks up to two people whom he recognizes as his drive. They are Didier Drogba and Alexandre Lacazette. Drogba just like Cornet is also an Ivorian whose family background and economic imbalance almost impaired his chances of becoming the Chelsea legend recognized today.

Additionally, while joining Olympique Lyonnais, they were his two referees.

10.  How tall is he?

The Ivorian professional footballer is of average height.  He stands at a height of 1.79m (5ft 10 in) and he weighs 69kg (152Ibs). Compared to other football players, he cannot be considered to be too short or tall. His height is just average.
