His father’s name is Feu Isaie Traore and his mother bears Aminata Isabelle Traore. His second-eldest brother, Alain Traore is a footballer, playing for Arta/Solar7 in Djibouti and the Burkina Faso national team. According to reports in August 2010, Traore joined Chelsea academy at the age of 15 from French outfit Auxerre and had his education at Whitgift School in South Croydon, London. It took three years for the Standford Bridge outfit to give him an official contract on 31st October 2013.

The following year, they loaned him to Eredivisie club Vitesse. Six months later, confirmation came that he would remain at Vitesse for the 2014/15 season.

After receiving his work permit and clearance to play Chelsea for the 2015/16 season, he was handed the number 14 jersey. He debuted for the Blues on 16th September 2015 in a 4-0 win over Maccabi Tel Aviv in a Champions League group stage encounter.

In August 2016, the striker signed a new three-year deal with the Blues and was loaned to Ajax for the 2016/17 season. Luckily for him, he was reunited with his former manager at Vitesse, Peter Bosz. While at Ajax, he didn’t impress his manager who even criticized his playing attitude. However, he netted six goals in the 2016/17 Europa League season, which Ajax to reach the final, but lost 2-0 to Manchester United.

His loan spell ended the following year when Lyon signed him on a five-year contract for a reported fee of €10 million (£8.8 million), including add-ons. However, there were reports that the Blues inserted a buy-back clause in his contract, which would give them 15% of what Lyon would make should they choose to sell him in the future.

Three years later, he joined EPL side Aston Villa for a reported fee of £17 million on 19th September 2020. He made his debut five days later and netted a goal in his side’s 3-0 away win over Bristol City in an EFL Cup encounter.

The 29 year-old striker represented at the youth level. He played at the 2009 FIFA under-17 World Cup in Nigeria and helped Burkina Faso, defeat host, Rwanda at the final of the 2011 Africa under-17 Championship.

Traore made his national team debut in September 2011. As of 2022, he had played in four Africa Cup of Nations editions; 2012, 2015, 2017, and 2021.

All these put together alongside what he earned while playing for Chelsea and Lyon contribute to his net worth of above $5 million. His contact with Aston Villa runs until 30th June 2024.
