Adam Ounas is a professional football player that plays for Serie A club, S.S.C. Napoli, and the Algerian national team. He plays the position of attacking midfielder or winger for both teams with jersey nos. 33 and 18 respectively.

Right from a youthful age, Adam has played actively and rose through the ranks of major circuits like Ligue 1 in France before switching to Italy where he currently plays for Napoli.

1. Adam Ounas was born in France to Algerian Parents

He was born Adam Mohamed Ounas on November 11, 1996, in Chambray-Les-Tours, France to parents who were from Algeria. His father, Hadji made an impact on the young Ounas that started showing interest in the game at a young age.

2. Ounas’s Father was a Goalkeeper

His father who was a goalkeeper encouraged his son to join the youth academy of a local club, Tours FC at the age of four. From that point onward, Ounas pitched his game by aiming shots at his father whenever they practiced. This may have also been instrumental to his attacking skill.

3. His Football Career was almost Ended by Juvenile issues even before it started

Ounas talent on the field almost ended before he had moved up his career ladder. He had a lot of juvenile actions which were considered inappropriate by the Indre-et-Loire club that handled his youth training.

Chateauroux, the club he was playing for feared the implication of his being undisciplined and released him to the Tours.

He was released seven years later from training and was on his own with skills that needed to be honed and character that needed taming. His redemption later came after scouting agents from Bordeaux spotted him at a game organized for 16-year-olds-released from youth academies.

4. The Athlete has Been Loaned to many Clubs in his Football Journey with Napoli

The 28 years old player put his early delinquent ways behind him and concentrated on his budding career. Ounas was signed to a one-year contract by the Girondins de Bordeaux in 2013. This was later changed to a two-year trainee contract. He scored a last-minute goal for the team in his debut match which ended in a  defeat match against Lorient.

Napoli snatched the player in 2017 while Manchester had an interest in him. His move to the team did not lead to a placement but it opened doors for loan moves to other sides. In 2019, he made a loan move to OGC Nice with an option for purchase. He was forced to return to Napoli when Nice refused to pursue a purchase option.

Ounas was loaned to two other clubs, Cagliari and Crotone between 2020 and 2021. The left-footer is a force and highly sought after. His contract with Napoli will end in 2022.

The athlete’s social life is under wraps though his wife, Sarah Ounas posts their pictures and their children, Nas and Ayden Ounas. They became a news item when his wife was accused of stealing at the French chain of Stores, Fete ci Fete ca.

In her defense, Sarah claimed she was falsely accused without evidence.  and she sued the stores. It is alleged the saleswoman became suspicious of them after she heard them on a phone call in a language that was not French.

Football history is filled with allegiance to countries of descent. He joined the ranks of players like Zidane and Benzema who can turn up for the Algerian team, Les Fennecs.

He switched his allegiance to play for Algeria in 2016 as a decision he made from the heart. This decision came despite having played for the French under-20s in the 2015/16 season.

His wish came true when he was called to play for the Algeria national team for the first time in the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Nigeria. Having debuted in 2017 for the national team, he made his presence unforgettable in the Afcon games 2019. Ounas scored 2 of the 3 goals that defeated Tanzania.

8. He was the Victim of Cyber Racism from Torino Fans 

The midfielder had a first-hand experience of racial attack while playing on loan to Crotone. In the team’s match against Torino 2021, he put a goal into the net making him a target for cyber racism.

His attackers were alleged to be Torino fans who sent him direct messages on his Instagram handle. Some of the messages published by the player include death wishes and demands telling him to ‘return to Africa’ after calling him a monkey.

Known for his dribbling skill and his strong leaning in using his left foot, many comparisons about his skill abound. One is by the football author, Robin Bairner who likens him to Napoli attacker, Nabil Fekir.
